Film Project Research 2: If I Stay

The second film opening I watched in research for my was If I Stay. Short Summary of Opening:  The opening of this movie begins with an arial shot of snowy mountains while Mia speaks in a voice over.  She is talking about herself and her family, including her mother, father, and little brother.  The voice over ends and dialogue between the four family members begins. They hear on the news that an approaching snow storm has cancelled school, so the family is in their kitchen talking. Mia talks about her cello practices and a boy named Adam, which we learn is her long-distance boyfriend.  The opening ends when Mia's parents convince her to go with them out to the farm to spend the day together. Analysis of Opening:  The film opens with an arial shot of snowy mountains.  There is a lot of camera movement in the very beginning, going across different scenery. The camera then zooms in on one house, which we find out is where the main character, Mia, lives. ...

Film Project Research 1: The Fault In Our Stars

The first film opening I watched in my research was the first 2 minutes of The Fault In Our Stars. Short Summary of Opening:  The scene opens with a close up of a girl's eyes and she begins speaking in a voiceover. The scene switches and shows a series of short-takes depicting the girl and a boy who are obviously in love.  The montage continues with her voice over.  Then the scene switches to the girl and her mother with a doctor discussing suicide.  It becomes obvious that the girl, named Hazel, is has cancer, but in the final few seconds of the opening we learn that she has depression.  The last part of this opening is the doctor prescribing medicine and strongly encouraging Hazel to attend a support group. Analysis of Opening:  The entire opening, minus the final scene is shot in short takes that jump through a series of events.  The first shot is of the night sky filled with stars.  The camera is panning as a few credits appear.  The ...

Project Selection- My Choice

For my AICE Media Studies project, I chose to complete the film aspect with a partner.  My partner has decided to complete the magazine project and now I will be working on the film alone.  This definitely will make accomplishing this project more difficult.  I will have to do all filming and editing myself.  As I have mentioned before, I do not have the most experience in editing so taking on this project will be a lot of work.

Project Selection- My Choice

I have chosen to complete the film project for my Component 1 submission.  I am really excited for the opportunity to write a script and bring it to life on screen.  I am an actress myself so I have experience in this field and I have specific visions for the actors in my film.  I also have made short films in the past so I have experience in filming.  I am not sure what my film will be about but it will be something dramatic and mentally stimulating.  I will be working with Marley Churchward on this project.  We will divide the work evenly and incorporate each of our views into the film.  Marley and I will write the script together and take turns filming.  We will edit the clips together to complete the project.  This project will require a lot of collaboration and compromises if we have different views.  Overall, I am very excited to begin working and I believe Marley and I will make a great team.

Project Selection-Film

One project choice for the AICE Media Studies Component 1 submission is a short film introduction.  This project really interests me for many reasons.  One such aspect is acting.  I have a passion for acting and performing.  This project is a way for me to incorporate my interest in live performances to screen.  Another part of this project that interests me is the opportunity to write my own script.  I enjoy creative writing, so it will be a really cool experience to take the words I write on paper and bring them to life on screen.  This project is open for each individual's own ideas and choices which makes it something that interests me.  I do think that this project will be a challenge for me, though.  I think the hardest parts of this project will be the organization of film times and editing.  This project will require people to act in the film and it may be difficult to coordinate a schedule.  I also may have difficulty with ...

Project Selection- Magazine

One choice for the AICE Media Studies Component 1 is to design a magazine.  There are many things about print journalism that appeal to me.  One such aspect is photography.  I have always loved photography and I take pictures of virtually everything.  The picture requirement for this project is a minimum of 4 photographs.  Another part of this project that interests me is the opportunity to design the layout of a magazine.  I am a very creative person and I like to use that creativity in my projects.  I will be able to incorporate a color scheme, text font, and layout of my choice.  A final thing I like about this project is that I can make the magazine about anything that I want.  I am interested in fashion, so I could make a fashion magazine.  This project is open for each individual's own ideas and choices which makes it something that interests me.  I do think that this project will be a challenge for me, though.  One aspec...
