Film Project Planning: Script, Locations, and Overall Plan
Between Saturday, Sunday, and today, I completed my script for my film project. My film starts with the lead female, Kate, sitting in a car. She is looking out the window and she is voicing over the scene. The screen switches to Kate sitting at a grave with a bouquet of flowers. She is talking to the grave, which belongs to her boyfriend, Jake, who had just passed away. Kate gives her monologue to Jake's grave as the scene switches from the cemetery to Kate in the car. Kate's father is driving the car and he says, "I'm so sorry, sweetie. He was a good man." He reaches over and grabs her hand. Kate complies for a second and then she pulls her hand away. She looks out the window and cries silently. She slowly closes her eyes as the voice over of her thoughts begins. The screen goes black and fades through a series of short takes of the relationship Kate had with Jake. The first memory is of the of them at the beach playing in the water at sunset. Jake throws Kate into the water and they both come up laughing. The next memory is of Kate and Jake sitting in a coffee shop and each reading a book. Kate is reading her book as Jake throws a little piece of paper at her to get her attention. She looks up and they laugh. The screen then dissolves into the next memory of then laying in the grass of a park and looking at the clouds. They lay side-by-side and are holding hands. The scene then switches to Kate and Jake at the garden. There are several mini-scenes in this location. They include Jake and Kate sitting on a bench (sort of snuggling together), walking on a tree branch (trying to balance), and walking hand-in-hand down a path in the garden. These scenes all play backwards at a high speed as Kate says, "And all of this happened that one day in the library." The screen goes black and dissolves into an insert shot of a book. The camera pans up to show Jake standing at the table and he says, "Um hi... My name is Jake. What's yours?" That is the end of the film opener. The full movie is a flashback that Kate has of her relationship with Jake on her way home from the cemetery.
The locations I will be using are a cemetery, a car, the beach, a coffee shop, a park, a garden, and the library. I will scout these locations out tomorrow, but I believe I have a pretty good idea of where I want to film. Tomorrow morning I will complete my shot list and storyboard, then in the afternoon/evening I will scout the locations.
